Getting your $%# kicked!

O.K. I know it is the off-season and all, but I just got my ass kicked at Master's swim this morning. All started off well, but then we closed the set out with 3x500 on the 8:00, 7:45, and 7:30. The first 500, I might have finished about 8:00. The second set I got lapped twice and only completed 400 yds so as not to slow down my lane partners too much. Finally on the 3rd set I got lapped twice and finished it out at 8:57. Pitiful! I swam the extra 100 I missed in the second set during my cool down, but I felt like crap this morning. I attribute it to the harder than normal strength session last night!

Off Season Training

So now I am in the off season. Well I have been for quite some time, but I just started training again. I took a break after the Twin Cities Marathon (which was not a great event for me compared to last year) and was glad that I did. I trained maybed once a week for a good month. Over the past two weeks I have slowly started to get back into a routine. Mon/Fri's I do strength training at the gym. Tues/Thurs's I swim with a Master's swim class. On the weekends, I tend to run (inside at the moment as I just can't seem to motivate myself to pull on my winter running gear) and occasionally ride the bike. My goal is get my off-season program in full swing in the next 7 days which will get me on the bike and running twice a week as well. All my workouts are low to moderate intensity with very interval work. My swim workouts tend to be a bit more taxing, but they are still fun.

What's next? Well I need to start planning my 2006 season!
