3.23
It was one year ago that I was hit by a car on an early morning training ride. Last year, the morning was about 45 degrees and sunny. This year, it was snowing and about 32 degrees. Most days I don't even think about the accident. However, when I am out on the bike I do find myself getting jittery at intersections or just about any time I see a car at a cross roads. This has even translated into my driving. I am keenly aware of how often drivers don't look left to right when entering traffic and do rolling stops at traffic lights and stop lights.
I would have loved to have been riding outside today and I am sure I would have ridden the same route as last year. I often find myself riding by the accident site. I think that it makes me feel stronger or defiant in some way. At a minimum it reminds me of how lucky I am. This year I commemorated with a ride on the trainer while watching the finish of Milan San Remo again (I just love how Cancellara won yesterday) and spending the rest of my day with my wife and daughter.
