0 Miles
5 days and no miles in my legs... I caught an awfully strange cold that has laid me up now for 5 days. I am less than a week out from the Loon training camp and my fitness has stalled and is going quickly. It is going to be a painful four days at this rate. I am going to bring the iPod along and make sure that I can get my distractions as I am sure I will be off the back quiet a bit. It is hard reading about the miles others are getting in when your laid up. I now know how Frye has felt this past winter. I have been skirting colds all winter long, so I guess it is finally my turn, but the timing could not be worse. I am hoping to get back on the bike tomorrow for my first easy spin and hopefully at least start to get the blood flowing again.

3.23
It was one year ago that I was hit by a car on an early morning training ride. Last year, the morning was about 45 degrees and sunny. This year, it was snowing and about 32 degrees. Most days I don't even think about the accident. However, when I am out on the bike I do find myself getting jittery at intersections or just about any time I see a car at a cross roads. This has even translated into my driving. I am keenly aware of how often drivers don't look left to right when entering traffic and do rolling stops at traffic lights and stop lights.
I would have loved to have been riding outside today and I am sure I would have ridden the same route as last year. I often find myself riding by the accident site. I think that it makes me feel stronger or defiant in some way. At a minimum it reminds me of how lucky I am. This year I commemorated with a ride on the trainer while watching the finish of Milan San Remo again (I just love how Cancellara won yesterday) and spending the rest of my day with my wife and daughter.

The Millar Diaries
David Millar is writing a blog on his experiences as a racer for Slipstream Sports. If you have not checked out his rants, you are missing out. He gives a great behind the scenes of the races that he does. His Milan San Remo write-up was great. Make sure to watch the You-Tube video of Sean Kelly winning the 1992 Milan San Remo.

Milan San Remo
O.k. spring arrived just 2 days ago and we got dumped with 4 - 5 inches of snow over the last 2 days. Great weather for bike riding... So instead of heading out for a 3 - 4 hour ride with the Loons, I ended up riding on the good 'ol trainer instead.
Today was also the day of Milan San Remo. I logged onto the Internet to catch live updates and then headed over to Cycling.tv to check out the coverage. I then got the bright idea of hooking my laptop up to my TV in my exercise room. So there I was, watching live coverage of Milan San Remo while riding my trainer and having snow falling down outside. I was able to live vicariously through the peloton in Italy cruising along the Mediterranean cost. It certainly made my 1:45 on the bike much easier as the time just flew by. Watching Cancellara steel away with 2KM to go was just awesome. I loved seeing the rest of the lead group just staring at each other on who was going to go. It always amazes me that the everyone at the front always looks around for the guy who has the guts to go for it. Yeah, those that go don't always win, but today they did! What a great race.
Hopefully next week, the weather is much better.
