Working Out Again

So since my last post and the end of the cycling season, I pretty much have been a slug. I did not do a whole of anything but the occasional bike ride. The only regular activity I have been doing is a weekly Yoga class (more on that later).

Instead of getting out and riding my bike or doing any cross races I spend most of September and October looking for a new Cyclo-Cross frame on eBay. After about 6 weeks I found the right one. I essentially swapped out my 1 year old Redline Conquest frame for a brand new Redline Conquest frame in the right size. I went from a 54CM to a 48CM frame. After spending the summer riding a 52CM road frame, I realized that I have been riding the wrong sized frame for many, many years. Now that I have the new cross frame built up, I am back out riding enjoying what little fall weather we may have left.

On a different note, I started running again a few weeks back when I had a week long conference in Orlando. I ran for 8 days straight, which was great! Shortly after my best friend convinced me to sign-up for a 1/2 marathon in January (yes, January when the temps will be below freezing). Now I am motivated to actually exercise and stay in some form of shape through the winter. So this past week I have been working out in the mornings either running or riding my bike on the trainer. During the weekends I will get the new cross bike out and cruise the trails around my neighborhood.

I will still do Yoga, as I have come to love it. I never realized how much of a muscle workout you get from Yoga and how good it can make you feel. I have a great instructor who is also a professional bike fitter and ex-racer. He has been able to cater some of the Yoga to the specific challenges a cyclist faces. I realized how weak my core is, including my lower back. With the Yoga I have started to see an improvement in my core strength.

Anyway, I hope all of this starts to get my base going for next year's cycling season!
