Broken Ribs...

OK, so last weekend I got caught up in a crash during the Gluek road race. I knew I had at least bruised my ribs on my left side, so I took it easy, riding the trainer on Sunday and due to a new job taking Monday/Tuesday off. Wednesday I scooted home early and left from home to catch up with the fasties from the GW ride hoping to put in 60 miles on the bike. As soon as I got on the bike and started to put in a bit of effort, I realized pretty quickly that my ribs were more than bruised, but the pain was minor and I kept at it. After I hooked with the GW guys, we headed off towards the first interval effort, which is a short uphill stretch of road. As I came up over the top of the climb, out of the saddle, rocking the bike back and forth, I felt a huge pop in my left ribs. The a huge rush of pain. I sat up and blew it off and kept going for another 10 miles or so. I put in another good effort coming over the Baker Park hill, which toasted my legs and put more pain in my rib cage. From that point forward I moved to the back of the pack and simply sat in. As we got towards the Golf Course hill, I simply did not have the legs to keep pace and as soon as I stood up on the pedals, my ribs cried out in pain. I sat down and soft pedaled the last 15 miles home. When I got home I could not breath out pain. It was uncomfortable doing just about any movement so I just laid on the couch. Luckily I had some pain meds from the auto/bike crash and was able to take a bit of the punch off.

So the conclusion is I have some broken ribs on the left side and I am back to riding the bike on the trainer with some easy and light moderate efforts... So long racing season for now!
