Starting over again

We finally moved into the new home and are settled. I did not run over the past 10 days and just went for a run this evening. My knee felt ok, but more than anything else I just felt tired. I got 30 minutes which is what I wanted.

I have 10 weeks until the marathon. I put together a program and it will be interesting to see how well I do to adhering to it. I am nervous about the knee, but I have gone back to my Chiropractor who helped last year. I have several excercises I can do now and am motivated to keep healthy.

Improved fitness

While I am still a long ways from being in the shape I have had few good workouts. Last Wed. I went on the group ride and rode the short course. I helped drive the front group and stayed with everyone on the hill climbs (except for the last one). Afterwards I went for a 30 minute run. The knee hurt durin the run, but not too bad. With ice and some ibuprofen, the knee felt good that evening.

On Saturday I went out for an hour run. The knee again felt ok, I had slight pain througout the run and I walked the steep downhills. However after the run I stretched the knee well and there was no pain afterwards and did not get stiff. I iced it when I got home too.

Sunday I hit the bike and road down to Hopkins to watch the crits. I was hoping to race, but got down there are realized I did not have enough cash for the entry fee and I forgot my cycling license. So instead I watched, which was fun! I got in about 20 miles or so and the knee felt great. No pain, no stiffness. The legs felt o.k. Not as strong as I would have liked, but better than usual these days.

Overall I feel I am getting more consistent and some fitness is returning.

Water jogging and getting my *ss kicked

Yesterday I went out and did water jogging for 20 minutes in a pool. I felt that my heart rate got up a bit, but not as high as if I was running on land. My knee definitely felt better for it, though it still is nagging me.

Today I was supposed to go for an easy ride with a friend, but I should have known better. We were going out for a two-hour easy spin with another guy. What I forgot is that easy for them is hard for me these days as I am just not in shape like I used to be. I had a nice time on the bike and really miss the hours in the saddle. I simply enjoy getting out on the road and pushing myself along. After the ride, my knee was a bit stiff, but too bad. I am still pretty nervous to try and run on it. I think I will take Monday off and run on Tuesday and see how it feels.
