House part two

So we found two lots. One lot was just a mile away and had a beautiful view. It was on a small, non-boating lake with lots of trees and privacy. It was at the end of the a cul-de-sac and there were only a few houses on the street. The issue we had is that we did not like the builder. The builder just did not have the design elements that we were looking for. You would think that we would have just given up the concept for now and gone back to being content with our current home.

No... That did not happen. We sat up evenings discussing if we should keep looking. Talking ourselves into the process. The housing market was good, not hot like it was, but not totally cold yet. Land was being developed left and right and prices just keep going up. So we kept looking and looking and looking. Finally, we stumbled on another lot and realized that the builder/real estate agent was one we had looked into before (when we were searching for our current home). They had a great lot. It was in a new development in the town just north of us. The lot was huge (.8 acres) for the area, and was perfect for our dogs and our daughter. It too was at the back of a cul-de-sac. The builder had the design elements and experience we were looking for and we started the process of trying to figure out what we wanted to build. Now just to put some perspective on this, we went through the parade of homes in September and it was now early November.

Schedule Issues

This past December I took on a new role at my company with greater responsibilities. Since then, life has been a whirl wind. All of the sudden my schedule does not seem to be my own. I get to work and the time is booked from 8AM to 6PM most days. I might get an hour or two to get through my actual work. I often am spending evenings catching up on email. I don't mind the work or the hectic schedule, but what is tough is scheduling in the time I need to workout. I am up early and home late and I am having trouble getting it all in, family, personal time, workouts, etc. I really enjoyed the level of fitness I acheived last year. The ability I had to stick with the fast guys during workouts, and how it made me feel. Now I feel caught between work, spending time with family, household responsibilities, and excercise. The workouts have definitely been put on the back burner.

Building a House

So Pam and I have decided to build a house. This all started in August of 2005 when I had the bright idea of taking Pam on the Parade of Homes tour. I just wanted to have some fun looking at how other homes are being built, decorated, etc. However, Pam got hooked on the idea of building a new home, a dream home so to speak.

Well long story short, we ended up finding two lots that we fell in love with that sparked the long process of starting to build a house...
